    Based on the famous Dr. Seuss story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Grinch explores a familiar theme of a cynical outsider discovering the real meaning of Christmas. It is a message about tolerance for those who are different, the real meaning of Christmas and the temptations of commercializing the holiday beyond recognition.

　　In the town of Whoville everyone is comfortable, everyone is happy and everyone loves Christmas - well nearly everyone. The exception is The Grinch, a not so jolly green giant who lives atop a mountain overlooking the town of Who.  He hates Christmas, so much so that he will try anything to stop it, whether it's destroying mail in the sorting office or scaring shoppers in the streets.  The Grinch vows to spoil Christmas and goes burgling every Who house, dressed as Santa Clause and flying a rocket-powered sled he banged together from junkyard scrap.

　　Enters Cindy Lou-Who, a six-year-old girl who questions the town's obsession with over-the-top presents and investigates just why the Grinch is so grumpy. An unlikely friendship forms between the two.  With a little help from the young girl, the Grinch discovers something about himself, and begins to realize what he has missed all the years he has hidden himself away.

　　Jim Carrey is amazing and fun as the Grinch.  He earns big laughs without ever stepping out of character. Although the film won't appeal to all ages, this would make a great movie for any young person new to film and the Christmas holidays.
　《圣诞怪杰》改编自Dr Seuss家喻户晓的童话故事《格林奇如何偷走圣诞节》。这部影片给大家讲述了"圣诞怪杰"是如何领会到圣诞节真正意义的故事。它想要告诉大家，人们应该相互理解, 要领会圣诞节的真正意思, 并防止圣诞节的商业化。

　　在一个名叫Whoville 的小镇, 人们都生活得恬静愉快, 也都很喜欢过圣诞节, 除了一个人，这个人就是"圣诞怪杰", 他是一个暴躁的绿色怪物，住在小镇旁的一个山顶上。他痛恨圣诞节, 恨不得让整个节日停止下来。于是，他去邮局破坏邮件的投递, 吓唬街上在节日中购物的行人. "圣诞怪杰"发誓要彻底破坏圣诞节, 他打扮成圣诞老人, 骑着用废铜兰铁敲打出来的雪橇, 到每个镇上人的家里偷盗。
　这时一个6岁的女孩Cindy出现了, 她想知道圣诞节的真正意义是什么, 也想了解为什么"圣诞怪杰"的脾气那么古怪. 一系列的小故事发生了，Cindy和"圣诞怪杰" 成为了好朋友. Cindy使"圣诞怪杰"更加了解自己, "圣诞怪杰"也意识到了，特力独行使他错过的美好生活。

　　在影片中Jim Carrey 把"圣诞怪杰"表演得精彩滑稽.  他的表演既幽默风趣又没有脱离角色本身的特质.  虽然有些人可能不太欣赏这部影片, 但它却是孩子们的最爱。

　　He cleaned out that icebox as quick as a flash.
　　他把冰箱一扫而空。

　　Why, that Grinch,
　　He even took their last can of who-hash.
　　哦, 那个鬼他连最后一罐马铃薯泥都不放过。

　　Then he stuffed all the food up the chimney with glee.
　　然后他把所有的食物从烟囱送出去。

　　And now…

　　Grinned the Grinch
　　"圣诞怪杰"笑着说

　　The Grinch

　　I'll stuff up the tree.
　　我要把圣诞树送上(烟囱)去
　And the Grinch grabbed the tree,
　　"鬼精灵"抓住树，

　　And he started to shove, when he heard a small sound like the coo of a dove.
　　当他听到了一声小鸟般清脆的声音，便开始往（烟囱）上爬。

　　Excuse me.
　　对不起

　　The grinch had been caught by this tiny who daughter, who'd got out of the bed for a cup of cold water.
    "鬼精灵"被这个"刚好起床喝水"的小女孩逮到了。

　　Cindy

　　Santa Clause?  What are you doing with our tree?
　　圣诞老人？你拿我们的圣诞树干吗？

　　Narrator

　　But you know, that old Grinch
　　但你知道，那个老"圣诞怪杰"。

　　Was so smart and so slick
　　太聪明，太狡猾了。

　　He thought up a lie, and he thought it up quick.
    他马上就可以想出一个谎言。

　　The Grinch

　　Why my sweet…little tot.
　　哦，可爱的小妹妹。
The fake Santa Clause lied.
　　冒牌圣诞老人撒了谎。

　　The Grinch

　　There's a light on this tree that won't light on one side.
　　圣诞树上一边有一颗灯泡坏了。

　　So I'm taking it home to my workshop, my dear.
　　所以我要带回家去修理，亲爱的。

　　I'm taking it home,
　　我把它带回家,

　　I'll fix it up there,
　　我回去把它修好，

　　And I'll bring it back here.
　　再把它送回来。

　　Cindy

　　Santa, what's Christmas really about?
　　圣诞老人，圣诞节的真正意义是什么？

　　The Grinch

　　Vengeance! Er, I mean, presents, I suppose.
　　报复，嗯，我想我说的是礼物。

　　Cindy

　　The kid hmm, I was afraid of that.
　　我就是怕这样。

　　Narrator

　　And his fib fooled the child.  Then he padded her head, and he got her a drink, and he sent her to bed
　　他骗过了小女孩。然后拍了拍小女孩的头，帮她拿了杯水，叫她回去睡觉了。

本片改编自家传户晓的童话故事，在北极圈的一角，除了是圣诞老人的故乡外，也是「圣诞怪杰」的家。「圣诞怪杰」与狗Max相依为命，平常不太爱出洞。谷底的小镇传来喜气洋洋的节日气氛，原来圣诞节将临。
　　大家兴高采烈之际，他却感到寂寞孤苦，于是他把心一横，偷取各人预备的礼物，四出把村民的圣诞礼物全部偷走，更出尽八宝，飞檐走壁，连弓箭都出埋射走礼物，又潜入地下观察周围的动静，连老鼠仔都不放过。
　　「圣诞怪杰」以为偷去所有圣诞礼物，便能破坏圣诞气氛，但後来才知纵使没有礼物，村民欢乐的歌声仍然远远传来，圣诞节没有因为缺少礼物或圣诞树而停止，「圣诞怪杰」便渐渐明白快乐并不是建筑在物质上……
